The final GP of the season took place at Sywell near Northampton. This is the traditional end venue and it offers excellent facilities including a lot of space to accommodate the prize ceremony and the end of season raffle.
Sywell is famed for its wind and today would offer a severe test. The course consists of a three sections. The first is open grassland and although the wind was strong it was, to a degree, consistent. Next was a garden area, here the wind was switching and swirling and flags, indicating wind direction, showed it was going left and right at the same time! The third section was "the bank of death", here targets were placed at varying heights and the wind was blowing a hooley. The strong wind gusted up the slope of the bank and lifted pellets well above the killzone.
Of the five competitions the winner of B grade and SFT had already been determined. The C and A grade winners were still uncertain and the big one could still be won by a number of shooters.
The last 2 seasons had seen the Sywell GP won with scores of 43 and 42. Today's conditions suggested that a score close to 40 would probably win the day.
Here's Andy Gillott negotiating the bank; he posted an impressive 36 to further his challenge for the overall title.Roger shows off his kneeling technique.
Big Neil bags a pair on his way to 36 to tie for third on the day and 6th overall.
The morning session was topped by Andy Calpin who scored an impressive 38 to lead by 2. It looked like this score would not be troubled by the afternoon shooters as the wind seemed to increasing in ferocity. Dorian Falconer came close with a 37 but the day was to belong to Mr Calpin.
So to the award of trophies and the end of season mega raffle with lots of prizes on offer; many thanks to Napier for the sponsorship of the GP series.
Kate Green won a shoot off to claim her first piece of FT glassware; third in C grade. In her excitement Kate unfortunately dropped her newly won brandy glass. As soon as Mr Calpin received his then he offered it to Kate, what a gent!
Paul Schofield won A grade with an excellent 35 which was 1 more than Dave!
After the day's trophies were awarded it was on to the overall placements for the season.
Congratulation to Brian Samson who dominated the SFT class.
Piston class was a two way contest between Nick Murphy and Marc Fisher, both had won four of the previous eight rounds. Nick triumphed today and added the Piston title to the British Championship he won in April.
Ian Harford had started the season with 3 rounds of SFT before constructing six strong rounds to comfortably win C grade. Second place went to Roy Boliver, well done Arby!
Simon Higgins came top in B grade after an impressive first GP season. Tenth place belonged to Baltipal!
Midway through the presentation we were treated to some overhead aerobatics which temporarily took everyone's attention.
Ian Stoddart had a brilliant season and won A grade at a canter, Ian c'mon!
Karl Clarke finished 6th in A grade in his first GP season for many a year. And to the top man. British FT Champion Andrew Gillott.
It's been a great season and I daren't add up the miles that we have travelled. The grounds, the courses and the weather have all been variable but one thing has remained constant - we all had a great time.
So goodbye for a while, it's time for a blogging recess. Follow the adventures of the MFTA WL starting in October.

«Oldest ‹Older 1001 – 1200 of 1574 Newer› Newest»Jon, I'm sorry if you took what I said in the wrong way. I thought that you were intending to be there tomorrow and what I was trying to say, perhaps clumsily, was to go for it and get it done right.
You’re right, boards at measured distances would be the best option, and Daz is providing printed covers, but rather than bemoan the lack of boards have you any positive suggestions that might help and support Greg and Dave, who I think may be first on the scene. I’m sure they’d be gratefully received.
It was suggested by Ian that a course of some description could be put out as well. If the helpers have the time and would like to do it surely it can only be seen as an effort to look after our guests. For what it's worth, Phil G had suggested that if a course could be laid out then, to a degree, Weston could be replicated by using the top of the field. Surely our guests would appreciate that much effort.
Although I can't offer any help because I've been assigned other duties, I wouldn't dream of criticising anyone’s efforts because, not only am I one of the least qualified people in the club to do so, but I believe that that should be left to people who roll their sleeves up and get on with it.
I'm sorry that you needed to use the "c" word again because I thought that had been done and dusted, and, if you recall, the question of how we can be more welcoming was raised at the car park meeting on Saturday.
Come on mate, we're all in it together, and the more the merrier.
Jesus, if you see this I intend to be at the arrivals gate as you walk through. If for any reason we don't see each other then phone. See you tomorrow.
Phil, the Butler Creek has arrived!
Greg, me old fruit, do you think you could remember to put that DVD in your bag tomorrow?
Greg, listen to Uncle Phil and all your shopping troubles are over.
Greg, Phil is the blog's own shopping channel.
now you need a cfa from Opticewarehouse with a size 30 butler creek.
And then prepare for the blind panic when you drill a big hole in your new, hard to find, discontinued size 54 butler creek
still no results for the Castle 80.
I might have won.
I NEED ANOTHER BUTLER CREEK! I could have ordered that at the same time!!!!!!
Fully intend to get someone else to drill the hole & fit it, I can't be trusted with power tools.......or indeed unpowered tools for that matter!
My new name apparently, is Antonio.
Yo soy Antonio, y tú?
Can't wait to hear what they called Shaun!
Shaun the sheep
How'd it go Shaun?
Evening chaps.
Ok, Roy , I'll look for you in the arrival gate and I'll phone you in case we don't meet easyly.
Antonio, mi nombre es Jesus. ¿ Cómo estás?
I'm excited to the next travel.
Moreover a lot of Spanish mates call me to provide encouragement. There is high expectation about our experience in the European
Wht's the Shaun "name"?
Encantado Jesús.
Buenos noches Jesus, soy Shaun, que tal?
It was okay Greg. A little slower than I expected but I am on the beginners course.
How was your evening?
You've gotto have a Spanish name, an Asian couple at my class changed from Chandos & Joshi to Pedro & Lolita! Now, you don't want to end up a Lolita do you?
Ok, That's very good start.......without Google Traslator.
Any other brave ?
Like you say, a little slow because they are starting a few steps behind where we are but I'm assuming the class will pick up pace as the teacher gets a feel for the group & those with no apptitude fall away. We've got 13 in our class but one had gone by the end of the first lesson.
Mr Daniels bagged himself a nice pro target and big BSA for 500 sovs on the bbs, nice work.
The strangest thing for me......but the best thing also, was saying it outloud, I've never heard myself speak it before, not at full volumn. I think I'm going to like it.
18 in our class.
el profesor es Big Tim
Bargain! I wonder when he'll use them?
First question. Jesús, is it Professor or Maestro?
Quite a range of ages, from sixth formers to retired couples.
Any future "mujer" Gregory?
Excuse me if it's only one S but that's how Big Tim spelt it.
The class is in Spanish 100%?
I think is better "Profesor"
Maestro is called the person who teach very young people in the primary school.
we have a different name for them.
Not mine Jesus.
Tonight we learnt:
Hola
que tal
que hay
buenas dias
encantado/a
gracias
si
yo
a e i o u
muy bien
y tu
padre
madre
padres
el
profesor
o
and that Big Tim loves Spanish. He claimed that English people find Spanish an easier language to learn than say French because all the letter sounds remain the same.
Is that so?
Total beginners in my case Jesús so no, alot of English explanation but we tackled our first conversation in Spanish.
One REALLY nice bit of, ahem! She turned out to be French, over here teachin German but wanted to extend her range to Spanish aswell. Clearly it was too basic for her so she was off! A couple of other possibilities but their status is currently unknown.
Now Phil, no anti-teacher slur please. Tonight let me enjoy being the pupil.
Hi Phil, sorry for intrusion in your conversation.
It seems the FT tilt toward the Spanish, jejejeje.
Shaun, it was held in a Maths room, it was all over the walls! I nearly went into a cold sweat!
Spanish maths, now that sounds interesting!
Yes, Shaun. The Spanish letters sounds exactly like are writted.
The vowels and consonant sounds exactly are spelled
The lesson can be extended to the next level after Christmas apparently.
Jesus, let's hope that you can tell we've been learning Spanish at the open next year.
And my course Greg.
I'm sure of that Shaun.
It will be very exciting to ear you some phrases at the end of the Open in Spanish.
Be sure we'll apreciate very much because the effort you do to learn Spanish is impressive
Have had to buy any books yet?
Right it's bed for me, night all.
Buenas noches Jesus, hasta manana.
Back already. Yes Greg we have been given a title. In fact I'm off to Amazon to try and find it.
See you tomorrow.
And for me also I fear. Early start for me tomorrow!
Suggestion. Buy a good dictionnary ( Collins) and use it instead Google or anything else translator, because with the dictionnary when you looks for a word you read imperative other words!, and you improve the vocabulary.
Nighty night my friends.
Hasta mañana.
Buenas noches
Buenas noches todos, hasta lavista Jesús, tomorrow afternoon amigo!
i take it i am on my own again
Ok Roy, i was on a good day havent bothered reading but got the jist.
I m on my way.
OK Jon. No harm done. Everything went off successfully from what I hear. Good luck for the weekend, it's about time you had another win.
Well, that all went rather well I think. Just the shooting bit now, good luck 'riders & Jesús of course!
quick resume greg? was wotshername there?
Ian, you will be pleased to know that the butler creeks have reduced in price! £9.25 including delivery now.
I kept meaning to ask that question as well. Did Ian have a dreamy look on his face?
It went extremely well today, but a special appreciation has to go to Daz for his efforts, thanks again.
Didnt get away until 6.45 those Hungarians just seem so nice.
Phil you missed three milfs today.
Thought i was in with one of them.
Yep Ian was pointed to his partner tomorrow. There two younger fitter models though.
i think he had a warm feeling...
Jon, i do a lot of missing at Millride.
Greg I demand you get some photos of the said ladies.
Don't expect any more help shopping wise if you come home empty handed.
were the Ruskies happy then?
Suppose it could be called a dreamy look on Ians face, nothing like a cold shower.
If you lose him for a short time, check the loos!
Chaps, the house is full, the women want to talk, the dog won't settle, the wine bottle's empty, I've got to be in oldbury at 6:30 tomorrow, and I've got a European Championship to win. Goodnight all.
Russians and Hungarian very happy indeed, in fact it couldnt have gone better, then throw in 20 targets for added measure.
What bemused all was how much wind they had to give, then i explained it was quite mild today.
shame there wasnt a proper millride wind
Phil the Hungarian had a prototype S&B for the last 1 1/2 years with a monstrous 2" dia top turret.
It worked as well as the one i had 3 years ago and better than production one seen so far. Glass was better but still dubiously not as good as a VX3 Leup and different league to the Mark4. Skoda to a Wartburgh.
He was moaning he had to aim 20mm off at 50M.
Didnt see him hit anything on the course. Trying not to deter treat it as an experience tomorrow.
Must size me some slugs for tomorrow, back later unless fall asleep.
What a disaster at Weston, i do it every year.
Team Shore Conor McFlynn Richard Shaw Shaun Shore 132
is in 2nd place after day 1 on 132 points and 1 point behind leaders
Andras Fekete-Moro Paula Schofield
Sam Barr 133
C`mon all you millriders where are you!
Just in from a night out with our amigos from Spain.
A v enjoyable first Euro's for me.
Evening all!
Evening Shaun. What a weekend.
Outstanding!
I'm afraid I gave the tax payer poor value for money today. I did play my first game of footie for 4 months and I can still walk; at the moment.
Did you see the WL gradings are up on the BFTA site?
It'll probably be Wednesday when you suffer most from your football.
Yes, have seen the gradings. A healthy number of AA shooters now.
From Millride, I mean.
Can I be the first to congratulate Ian, Roy,and Karl on there new grades.
Ian, well done mate bet you would not have thought you would be in AA this year.
Roy, Now you can chase Greg and Mitch through the Winter League.
All thanks for a great weekend enjoyed your company and had a laugh.
Big thanks to Greg for all he did the weekend.
Evening Steve how are you feeling after all that up and down action.
THE BALTIPAL HAS LANDED!
Mission accomplished & Jesús is delivered to Stansted.
Not without it's interesting moments though. I was delayed initialy by a woman at the fuel station unable to remember her PIN or pay for her petrol by any other method. We then fair flew down the M42, M6, M1 only to find the entire A14 closed so after a brief stop to consult a map, we continued down the M1 to the M11 then the M25 arriving at Stansted at 1430hrs.
Not too much trouble at book in other than an SO insisting on calling Jesús' air rifle a firearm & his female counterpart being unable to open the case it was in on her own but the keeping of his previous sercurity document facilitated matters & we spent a little while chatting in the same establishment that Roy, Shaun & I had used previously, over a bottle of beer, an OJ & two chiatta sarnie things.
I chose to try the A14 route home but enevitably hit traffic finaly making it in for 1940hrs.
Loads of wildlife around the Airport though, I saw atleast a half dozen bunnies & one large rat just walking back to Chuggin' Betsy!
Hi Shaun, Good thanks bit sore, kept dose high of morphine last night and today for work.
Did Jesus get away ok?.
Welcome back Gregory!
No probs Steve, thankyou for making the camping possible.
Hi greg, Jesus away ok then.
I'm just trawling the net trying to find dates for next year's world's.
Ah! the A14, I know it intimately. The trip to Suffolk can take anywhere between 2.5hrs and even 4 hrs for no apparent reason. The definition of "firearm" brings back memories.
Thanks for the good wishes Steve. Hope you're not suffering too much now. Did the opening of the tent reveal anything, or has the trophy been melted down.
If Ian's spending his winnings on beer tonight his usual evening blog could be both late and unreadable.
Will be very interested in Jesus reaction to the magnifying glass for sidewheel.
No Arby no luck in finding missing money, bit gutted but not going to let it wreck a great weekend.
Shaun, gutted did not shoot Masters as next one to drop is a 64% so could have gained the extra required, or even hit a few more on Sat would have done it.
Good man Swifty, what goes around, comes around. I'd do the lottery this week if I was you.
Swifty, it has got to be the target for the WL.
Good night gents I am shatterd!!!!!!
I'm afraid I gave the tax payer poor value for money today.
Where do I start....
And I do you favours ...
I thought we'd agreed not to mention that
unfortunately, after my detailed analysis, I have poo-poo'd his advice.
Of course, I may be wrong.
Shaun, the past 2 days have been like the Christmas Day football match in no man's land. Hostilities have been resumed;Phil has hit the ground running.
Ah well!
I'm off to catch up on some kip.
I'll blog tomorrow hopefully with good news following the Burris meeting the TX.
Evening chaps!
Just arriveed at home perfectly.
The flyght was delayed about 15 min, but any other trouble.
I've just open the bagage and told to Mª Carmen and Nerea the main events and I give her the gifts!
Nere has been very satisfyed with the english hat I've buyed in Weston Park.
But I would like to say once again MANY MANY THANKS to every people which has provides to us this fantastic week end and specilay to you, all the Millrides's wehre I feel like one more of you.
Once again we have lived a special and unforgetable feeling to be remebered all my life.
Many thanks also on behalf of all the Spanish shooters.
Jesus, thank you for your kind words. There were so many people, apart from Millriders, who were genuinely pleased to see you again.
I hope the rest of the boys got home safely, it was a pleasure to have their company.
Shaun, my post looks like I'm very ungrateful, which I'm not. Thank you for asking Nick.
I've e-mailed you my thoughts, hopefully they make sense.
I have also done some more work on Sunday which hopefully will allay my irrational worries.
I'm glad you are safely home amigo.
evening lads. jesus you are one of the millriders as far as i am concerned.
Evening Superstar.
Thanks amigos!
This is very exciting for me.
Be sure you feel the same when you come to Euskadi as well as Shaun, Greg and Roy were here in the last Open.
Be sure we'll talk a lot in our forum about this event and all the personal experiences as well as for the personal relationships.
I've just sent Aldo a mail, my first venture into Italian!
Right lads it's quite late to me ( I've lost one hour today, jejejeje.)
So I'll go to bed .
Night night my friends.
Hasta mañana.
evening roy not so bad your self. as far as this season goes it is mission accomplished a mate.
Thanks Ian. before the weekend I had 2 targets. 1) to avoid embarrassment and 2) Achieve the % needed to get into B grade.
I thoroughly enjoyed the w/end but found it very difficult to rangefind and see the targets on Sunday. There was an improvement though after you kindly fetched me a hat. What a twerp I was to leave it in the car.
What a summer for you though Ian. If you don't get that grin off your face you might stick like it.
as you know i have shot as much as possible and it has helped me. this was wat i wanted for a long time. this weekend means so much to me, like i say it aint over till the last targets fallen, after shoot off i think you will agree.
Anybody seen this - 6th post dowm

Evening all.
The Burris is on and I'm very impressed with the quality of the optics.
the one about the toilets?
did you have an accident, again?
Phil, you are a cruel man!
Yes Phil, PMSL
Hi all, what's occuring?
Very little tonight
Abit of practice with the new boinger on that 8mm KZ then?
No, the 10mm got a little grilling but was reluctant to fall over. Then the kids came home to spoil the fun.
PMSL
literally?
So what's the new scope like then?
Very stylish. It fits the springer image.
I've only used it indoors but its seems really clear.
Bed for me.
early night in the Shore household? more practice?
Evening chaps.
Only to say you that I'm writing some articles about our experience in the European.
Good oportunity to learn Spanish!
I'll cotinue next days with comments and piccies

Holá Jesús, did you get my E-mail?
Yes, Greg.
Thanks a lot for it.
It will be very interesting for my friends.
I'll send it to them tomorrow.
Hello Jesus, good to meet you at Millride, if only for a short time. it sounds like you had a great time.
Yes, Phil G.
It was fantastic. A lot of things to remember.
I've read your write up Jesús, I can't wait to find out what happened next!
Ok, Greg, I'm sure you are in the same situation as the other Spanish shooters . They are anxious for my history.
Some of them told me they can't wait any day more!
Jesús, what is, 'ikurrina' ?
Ikurriña is a Euskadi flag
Ahh, muchos gracias!
The Pika ( Iñaki ) comment means that I'm very proud to be basque, so It looks like I would be a basque symbol outside our country, walking and talking.
You know?
I tried to mail Aldo but my spam filter wouldn't allow it so I've registered on their forum to say 'Hi' & post the photos. Should hear tomorrow if I'm in.
Ok, I'll be here tomorrow too.
It's time to bed.
Buenas noches a todos mis amigos de Millride FTC.
Buenos noches Jesús, un abrazo.
No one about tonight?
Just back from the 49th, 30 rounds of .38special, just the ticket!
No one about then, oh well! Remember it's Spanish lessons for myself & Shaun tomorrow.
Evening Greg& possible blogers.
It looks like everybody are busy with their home tasks.
I've writed the second part of the history in our webpage did you read it?
That's good training to learn some Spanish words.Their sounds need presence.
I'm alone?
Buenas noches a todos.
Nighty night
Evening chaps!
Some interesting piccies.

evening peeps, anyone around?
Hi Phil.
what you sprayed tonight then?
Hi Phil&Jonta
After four days of the European I can't think any other things than experiences of the weekend.
I've written some articles about this in :
http://euskalft.org/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=59&func=view&catid=2&id=2980&limitstart=120
Good chance to learn Spanish enjoying with some remembers!
Cocking lever Phil..
Hello Jesus hope you are well. will read your article shortly..
evening Jesus, I have google translator to teach me spanish!!!
Don't worry Phil.
Very early you'll have two excelent pupils with high Spanish knowledge in the Millriders crew
Evening all, Buenas Tardes a todos.
Just back from lesson 2 & tonight we touched briefly on the verb 'To Be', then backed away from it at speed & headed in the other direction!
If two identities weren't enough I temporarily became Pablo Román, as in,
'Buenas Tardes, soy Pablo Román, soy Enfermero.'
I don't have a back story yet but I can come up with one if necessary.
I'm convinced we're being trained for some covert operation alá Jason Bourne!
Hi Greg.
But....you were Antonio up to last monday isn't it?
Moreover Pablo Román looks like from the south america name.
I know Jesús, I expect a Spanish Passport, a Walther PPK & a suicide pill next week!
A Daystate GP up for sale on STB, £1,500.
Jesús, I'm sorry but those Butler Creeks appear to have gone out of stock. I rang them this morning to place an order & to be fair they are confident of resupply but I'm not sure from where as BC don't make them anymore.
Greg, Karl told me he could get new ones cheaper than that...
Right, we can build a interesting history.
I suggest you to start with the pills before to use the Walther PPK....
Righto, I'll need two straight away. KARL, WHERE ARE YOU?
Jesús, I was issued with the name card Pablo Román for the lesson but then we were all told to, "Keep them for the time being." Ominous!
Maybe something in that South American suggestion Jesús, I do have the sudden urge for Chilli Con Carné!
Ohhhh dear!
Sorry to remember you the meal at this time.
A great report Jesús, that photo of Oscar holding up the 'Fruit Shoot' cracked me up! He should try to get them to sponser him.
Well, Adios y buenas noches a todos,
Remember, the Worlds kick off in about 12 hours or so........I can't wait!
Yeahhhh.
Oscar is a crack. He will be excellent actor in any comic movie.
Thanks for your opinion about the report
Right, I'm off to bed.
Buenas noches amigos.
Hasta mañana.
how do i see them pictures what jesus has sent, me know understand
Oh Ian! Just copy/paste the addy between the http bit & the jpeg bit into the big box at the top of your screen & hit return matey. There's a nice piccie of you & Mia.
Another two hours & they'll be kicking off in SA. 11 O'clock their time, they've got 2 hours on us so 9 O'clock our time. Apparently we can look forward to real time updates here;

Weather for the Worlds here'
http://www.southafricanweather.co.za/aat/default.asp?area=77209
Evening all.
I'm blogging from the garden where I am enjoying a Fursty Ferret.
No update from SA yet.
First day scores are up.
James Woodhead has a huge lead assuming his main challenge will come from the UK.
It must have been tought for James O to drop 11.
The weather link provided by Greg indicates little wind. It must have been a very tough course.
http://airrifle.co.za/album.php?albumid=366&pictureid=4501
it will be if they are all like that!!!
looks superb.
What are your shooting plans this weekend Phil?
Any chance of the North Oxon 50 on Sunday?
I shall be at the Ride tomorrow for the H t H.
Sunday will be a day of fallow, watching the Singapore GP. If Far Coley were to be on, I could be persuaded to take a cheeky peek in preparation of next weekends WL.
North Oxon doesn't interest me to be honest.
Was it not your GP debut? No fond memories?
yes and yes.
Sorry, to explain, I'm a touch peeved that the last 2 open competitions I have entered (Warks open & castle 80) I have absolutely no clue as to how I got on.
I obviously know my score, but not that of any of the other competitors.
The people organising these events are continually posting on the forums leading up to the event, reminding us all what a fantastic shoot it will be, but even after asking on STB, they can not be bothered to post the results.
Bah, humbug.
Looking at the results. Andy Kays from Norway hit 12, he is the ex spring gun world champ.
I wander if the course was too tough and perhaps course 3 was a little easier.
Paul James tops the springer class, he won in N Ireland
The guy I shot with last year in NI is lying 10th.
Gone to fiddle with scopes etc. Blog later
I'm bag but alone!
I'm here, amongst other places.
Evening again Phil!
Just done a little fiddling with the Tx clicks. I'm making my springer debut on Sunday.
do you have any details of the HFT event in December that I can put on the website?
the guy who I started shooting with seems keen to sell his TX200 mark 3 with Hawke scope. I think he'd take £250. let me know if you come across anyone who's interested.
Not really other than the date.
I think these apply but need confirmation from the organisers.
1) 9.30 start or when there are 60 shooters, whichever comes first.
