The final GP of the season took place at Sywell near Northampton. This is the traditional end venue and it offers excellent facilities including a lot of space to accommodate the prize ceremony and the end of season raffle.
Sywell is famed for its wind and today would offer a severe test. The course consists of a three sections. The first is open grassland and although the wind was strong it was, to a degree, consistent. Next was a garden area, here the wind was switching and swirling and flags, indicating wind direction, showed it was going left and right at the same time! The third section was "the bank of death", here targets were placed at varying heights and the wind was blowing a hooley. The strong wind gusted up the slope of the bank and lifted pellets well above the killzone.
Of the five competitions the winner of B grade and SFT had already been determined. The C and A grade winners were still uncertain and the big one could still be won by a number of shooters.
The last 2 seasons had seen the Sywell GP won with scores of 43 and 42. Today's conditions suggested that a score close to 40 would probably win the day.
Here's Andy Gillott negotiating the bank; he posted an impressive 36 to further his challenge for the overall title.Roger shows off his kneeling technique.
Big Neil bags a pair on his way to 36 to tie for third on the day and 6th overall.
The morning session was topped by Andy Calpin who scored an impressive 38 to lead by 2. It looked like this score would not be troubled by the afternoon shooters as the wind seemed to increasing in ferocity. Dorian Falconer came close with a 37 but the day was to belong to Mr Calpin.
So to the award of trophies and the end of season mega raffle with lots of prizes on offer; many thanks to Napier for the sponsorship of the GP series.
Kate Green won a shoot off to claim her first piece of FT glassware; third in C grade. In her excitement Kate unfortunately dropped her newly won brandy glass. As soon as Mr Calpin received his then he offered it to Kate, what a gent!
Paul Schofield won A grade with an excellent 35 which was 1 more than Dave!
After the day's trophies were awarded it was on to the overall placements for the season.
Congratulation to Brian Samson who dominated the SFT class.
Piston class was a two way contest between Nick Murphy and Marc Fisher, both had won four of the previous eight rounds. Nick triumphed today and added the Piston title to the British Championship he won in April.
Ian Harford had started the season with 3 rounds of SFT before constructing six strong rounds to comfortably win C grade. Second place went to Roy Boliver, well done Arby!
Simon Higgins came top in B grade after an impressive first GP season. Tenth place belonged to Baltipal!
Midway through the presentation we were treated to some overhead aerobatics which temporarily took everyone's attention.
Ian Stoddart had a brilliant season and won A grade at a canter, Ian c'mon!
Karl Clarke finished 6th in A grade in his first GP season for many a year. And to the top man. British FT Champion Andrew Gillott.
It's been a great season and I daren't add up the miles that we have travelled. The grounds, the courses and the weather have all been variable but one thing has remained constant - we all had a great time.
So goodbye for a while, it's time for a blogging recess. Follow the adventures of the MFTA WL starting in October.

Yo how does geeza?
Seen who you is partenered with at Weston?
the draw with our man charlton is a cracker
I'll tell ya
Man in tights and what could pass as a nice bit of milf.
mate of mine has bought a car off ebay, Mitsubishi Galant VR4 twin turbo, item number 330355744044.
Just been a ride. blimey its quick.
speed costs money
not when you're the passenger
Mr C'mon, did you get my text earlier?
Must have been fairly local. 40k in 9 years.
Its not the horse power its the torque that makes em move. Had whiplash in 3rd at 40mph in my turboed V6. Used to dig deep trenches at Millride through the gate up and over the hill. Broke the ceramic clutch, heavy duty jobby used to let go at 85 4 up, tap acelerator 1/2 sec delay and rev counter wham.
yeah, torque for acceleration, horsepower for speed. Its got plenty of both.
Used to play with the Nissan 300 ZX and Toyota Supras, bike performance.
Weird thing 4 wheel power slides.
Spose i better do Hancox scope, had it three weeks, easy enough.
Back later.
yes phil no probs have not had time yet but leave it with me
no panic Ian, its screwed into the plastic flip up at the mo but it will eventually strip it unless I sort it out.
need to make one for me. I will mek a few
are you shooting 2 morra
yep. I'll be trying out my new anemometer too.
so your just playing
arn't we all?
I HAVE RETURNED VICTORIOUS FROM SHAUN'S QUIZ. TEAM 'SURESHOTS & SHAMELESS' TOOK THE GLORY BY 2 POINTS & I'M THE PROUD POSSESSOR OF 40 US DOLLARS TO PROVE IT!
The the scent of victory is in my nostrils now boys, WATCH OUT THIS WEEKEND!!!!!
Well, that was as tight a contest as could be expected! I'm talking of course, of the one between me & Arby, shoehorn tight all the way up the Course & finally decided by shoot off, Rapido Muerté!
Both of us started badly, I double dinked Lane 1 but it quickly became apparant that Roy's top turret was out resulting in a missed plate & 50% in the first ten. I recovered from my poor start quicker but Roy put on a blinding second ten dropping only 1 & when I fell foul of the old close one/ far one trick & went a turret out, missing plate myself we were both square going out into the field for the last lane. Both fell to us but despite sharing the same number of kills, 22. Roy calculated I had finished on 250 to his 255(I know Shaun!)
It wasn't till I overheard him say that I'd missed plate on two consecutive targets that the mistake was spotted & we realised we were both tied. Of course I don't believe there was any sharp practice from Mr Boliver at all on this matter & to give him every advantage I selected the lane that had thrown me so badly for the shoot off. Roy took the close reducer standing & down it went. My turn & I wasn't so confident but it still fell. Roy then attempted the 55 yarder standing but missed plate, we both thought that silly however so we went to the bag for that target, however Roy was denied! Now, this was the one I'd missed plate on remember, back post towards the top of the Course, I struggled to find a shot through the long grass but eventually managed it &..........down it went!!!!!!!
YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE LOOK ON HIS FACE!
It doesn't matter I suppose as we both get the same number of points for 255 & he is 7 points ahead of me but still......
Karl & Phil G both got 28 & joint top guns.
Evening Greg sounds like a thriller!
Have you cashed your dollars yet?
actually Greg, we were joint 2nd, Jonny D cleared the course.
28 Mr Gee, very impressive!
Well it's the eve of the CB Cup and Shield.
Tomorrow's par scores are:
Paul = 40
Eddie = 47
Greg = 51
Shaun = 62
Results from Cup last year
Shaun = 61
Greg = 54
Eddie = 48
Paul 43
The Shield:
Greg = +18
Paul = +5
Shaun = +3
Eddie = level
An incredible Shield performance from Greg.
thank you Mr Chairman. Missed a stander and a shortish reducer that I gave wind on left edge and there wor any.
The anemometer performed faultlessly.
You mean there was no wind?
for most of the targets no.
but on the last lane there was 2.5mph, which my calculations indicated I needed 1 nato space for the 50 yard target.
and it did.
Sounds interesting. Tomorrow's wind forecast is from 10-15mph. I'll be interested in your report.
I could tell you how much that would require at 50 yards but you have to believe in the force.
your absence was noted in despatches.
I hope you have a note tomorrow.
You missed a lively meeting. Greg is now blackballed.
Hiya lads, I've just been on the phone to Paul & he was asking how much tomorrows Shoot was.
We'll be kicking off shortly after 0700hrs.
Jonta has dropped out of tomorrows Comp but all others will be there I'm sure.
No, Shaun I've still got the Bucks, I may be due another ten according to Paul & he may buy them off me.
Tell more. And what of the badges?
Greg if you have $40 = £24
I'll give you £4 for them?
i believe its £8, thats 13 bucks and 20 cents in your currency.
Ahh, the badges!
Dave provided a full accounting of Club finances, in long hand of course. Ian forcfully stated he wouldn't be buying badges to issue to foreigners in Millrides name & as far as he was concerned they should be issed to us. I suggested we find out how many 'riders were shooting with foreigners first, Dave said we weren't a charitable institution & Roy countered with were weren't a profit making one either.
Quite eventful really.
after some to-ing and fro-ing I believe it was agreed that enough badges for 1 each for all the foreign competitors would be provided free of charge.
Evening all. Good synopsis Greg. I'm a bit annoyed that you didn't think my mistake was deliberate. I'll get you next time. Really enjoyed it today though.
Shaun, me and Greg were discussing the logistics of Jesus/Russians/Millride earlier. Do you want to discuss it tonight or leave it until tomorrow?
Phil's new toy is a rifle mounted GPS system. If he looks as though he's missing the target it re-routes him.
So did we get badges?
Let's talk tommorow Roy, hopefully in a pub with me supping real ale from the Chocolate Banana Cup!
In principle if not in in actuality.
So can anyone tell me if I have some badges. That is real ones not imaginary ones.
I propose the Fradley Arms on the A38. It's where we stopped last time we went that way, Redferns last year?
It's agreed that those shooting with foreigners will get stich on badges to present to them, however of course we won't know who we will be shooting with the following day, maybe no one from abroad or with two, although I don't think that generally happens. Ian has taken possession of them & will issue them as needed.
That should be 'stitch'
Thank you Gregory. Now I suggest that you go out for 10-12 pints of cider and a madras.
I meant synopsis of shoot not meeting.
As far as I'm aware a stock of enough CLOTH badges would be issued, equal in number to the number of foreign shooters in the competiti in the (unlikely) chance that between us, over the 2 days, all of them shot with a Millrider. BUT, none were to be issued to forein shooters who we didn't shoot with, and the surplus returned to the club.
The other topic of conversation was how to make the club more welcoming of new members and how to ease them in to the more competetive edge of Millride. There's work to be done there.
Started watching Hancock with the lads but after shit, bitch and then f**k decided it wasn't for them.
Perhaps we could welcome them with a Millride badge!!!!
Sorry about the spelling/typing.
I understood Ian would have enough for all of the foreign shooters, so whether you shoot with 1 or 2 you will be given enough.
Mmmm. Interesting suggestion Shaun. I'd be happy to leave that to someone of your tact and diplomacy.
who taught them those words?
How about two bottles of cider & a tin of Tikka Massala with beriani rice & a mini garlic & coriander naan
As long as it helps you prepare for the big one Gregory.
..............OK, two garlic & coriander naans!
That's what I meant Phil except that they'll only be issued to people you shoot with, and the surplus returned.
Will we be taxed Roy?
Phil, I suggest that the "Big Event" for Greg will be taking place in one of those blue sentry boxes.
Only people earning over £150 000 p.a. So it looks like you'll be paying our share.
I think my anemometer will be needed, as I predict a lot of wind tomorrow
but Roy, between you, you all shot with all of the foreigners, DIDN'T YOU...
Especially after the tin of baked beans I'm planning for breakfast tomorrow!
I thought it was the "Paul Radcliffe" for you tomorrow Greg.
Is everyone sleeping in prep for tomorrow?
I can hear Greg sleeping from here.
Okay I'll join them. Goodnight all and good luck tomorrow!
I was away doing something of which you would not approve, but I'm back now.
did we all leave? I'll have to make mischief until Ian turns up.
Ian, with vat and postage, the butler creek comes to £10.55, do you still want me to buy one?
I'm here Phil, watching Last Night of the Proms.
Where did you get your anemometer from?
Ebay. I made sure it was a UK seller.
ebay item number 130310765012 if you're interested
What Butler Creek is it, any use to me?
its a size 30 to fit to the close focus adaptor he is buying.
Ahh, so not to fit the front end of the Nikko then?
on the optics warehouse site under the butler creek page, there is a drop down list. under size 54 (the big nikko size) it says discontinued, see Nikko flip ups for equivalent size. so you could probably get a nikko version. not sure if they are any good.
evening lads
evening. £10.55 including vat and postage, is that OK for the flip up?
phil that seams a bit costly i will leave it sure i paid about 6.50 from sporting supplies
Oh Cmon with all the money you are on.
It'll cost about £10 to collect.
Phileep, last time i had a butchers at those anemometers was start of last season 2008.
Cant find any of the two i was interested in but one was a smaller version of this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Inspeed-Vortex-Wind-Speed-Meter-Digital-Anemometer_W0QQitemZ120464302787QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement_Equipment_ET?hash=item1c0c3b62c3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
The other was some sort of portable humidity thingy, but didnt fancy the size of the control unit and lcd with water.
Shaun, I've forwarded you a mail from our friends in the Russian field target federation.
Guys, I was surprised at your surprise when you saw the internals of the TX200.
You can find a strip down guide, which shows how simple they are, here:
http://www.severi.be/airgunning/
select stripdowns and TX200
Evening Phil.
I've replied to the e-mail.
Thanks for the link Phil.
Salutations brethren, metcheck is saying fairly light winds but showers from about 1 pm on Saturday, through Sunday. Friday will be dry though.
Let's hope that it's a windy morning and then very benign in the afternoon!
Shaun, did you get a phonecall from Dave Pitt?
He rang me about the Russian vist and I said I'd forwarded the mail to you.
Evening blogsters. Just back from my Diabetic Clinic & EVERYTHING is up, Hb1c, Blood Pressure, weight......the works! So I'll be disappearing of an evening for a walk.
I'm picking up Alan's cylinder Wednesday & taking it, Paul's & my own to be filled. Dave has phoned me to say he'll be bringing his as well so we should be fine for air on Friday.
Camping at the Euro's looks unlikely for me now so I'm embracing the idea of the diving in & having a good nights sleep on the Saturday. A suitably chased thread has appeared on the forums by way of a public info/penetence piece!
Evening Greg.
So a telling off then?
He he, no pain no gain.
Jon I've been in contact with Ivan and asked him to make sure they bring their charging equipment.
I'm off to watch the dead awake.
Ok Shaun i do have a Steyr one for a 300 bar some where, i will have a butchers.
Its the filling from empty that will take its toll. 1 Russians, 1 Hungarian any others?
Believe it or not i dont own an adjustable spanner but i have a 30" monkey wrench.
Back later.
Shaun, I'm sending you an email about Friday.
We will need a load of boards set out at 5 yard intervals out to 55.
900's a mine
Evening all. I can offer assistance on Friday as well chaps. What time is everyone going down?
http://www.glasgowfieldsports.co.uk/view.php?&module=products&parent=70
Glasgow Field Sports quote the Butler Creek size 54 and 53a, both of which will fit. It says 0 onhand, but then it does for all sizes.
It may be worth an e-mail to check what stock they have.
I know someone who is working in Glasgow, so he may be able to pick one up if they've got one.
Is Mitch not available? I'm sure he would be of more use, being the better shooter....
I think Mitch may be confined to his bedroom for some time.
has anyone seen Mitch since Sunday?
Sorry boys the masters not available so you'll have to make do with the pupil
Hi all, back from my wandering but I fear a hypo now! If it's not one thing it's another!
Dave didn't sound convinced about zeroing boards when I mentioned them earlier, nor indeed about anything at 55 yards so any help/support anyone can offer will be appreciated.
oi! only me
What's the objection, Greg?
No objection, he just thought reduced targets at closer ranges would be more suitable & would require less mileage in putting out/pulling in. As for boards, we havn't got any!
If we're going to do it, we've got to do it right. Any suggestions how I can help during the week, bearing in mind I'm collecting Jesus on Friday.
Greg there are four boards in the big container we can put out. I'll bring some new prints to go the front
I thought there were some of Daz's zero boards in the big container?
see, I told you.
Are we having to pay Millride for the privilege?
reduced targets at close ranges, ideal I'd have thought.
how many are going down. how about not causing confusion, put out a 30 shot coarse as we usualy do. whats the problem ! show them how its properly done, its just a bit of work thats all.
I'd like to but there will be me & Dave from 10 O'clock or so. I don't think we'll have time to put a full Course out.
Ta Daz, I'll slip the boards out while Dave isn't looking!
I'd say that would be a good idea Ian, but I'd be in no position to help on the day.
As an aside, would it be worth getting some metal plate "A" boards made for our own plinking sessions. They'd be less trouble to put out on a Saturday, and more helpful than what we use at present. It wouldn't be any trouble to paint them on a Sat 'cause we're doing that at present anyway?
put a full coarse out you mite demonstrate how it goes back in the box at the end some millriders have never seen how to put a coarse out, or get it bloody coarse in.
Trouble is, it won't be those people who volunteer to help.
a part from that shootings great. feel better now! ooooosaar
What's the, 'Beta Site'?
Swifty texted me to say there was something about the Euro's Camping on the Beta site.
i think he meant the BFTA site
it says that the passes will be posted out tomorrow. sounds a little late.
He can't mean BFTA can he?
Of course he means BFTA, DOH! I told you I was hypoing.
Karl,
Andy Gillot was asking about some weaver to dovetail adaptors on Sunday.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SIGHT-RAISING-BLOCK-SET-10mm-To-Fit-ANSCHUTZ_W0QQitemZ200382867309QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET?hash=item2ea7bfe76d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
This listing on ebay is for dovetail to dovetail but the guy also sells custom raiser blocks, so he might do weaver to dovetail if asked.
You said you had Andy's e-mail address, perhaps you could pass on the details to Andy?
Evening blogsters.
Thanks Phil, that Glasgow Field Sports seems to be able to help, I'm placing an order tomorrow.
Greg, just noticed that you're showing a score of 25 points for Saturday's comp. Sounds about right to me - it puts you in 17th place for the day. Oh dear, never mind, just try you're best next time.
Evening men! Anyone excited yet?
Yes, but then again, I'm in a constant state of excitement.
Evening chaps!
Yes Shaun , some exciting feelings are in Spanish shooters.
They are concentrated in a house in a village near Madrid to prepare the airguns as well as their body ( beer included in the training).
I need to work up to thursday, so I have not too much time to the training.
Thanks Greg for your wishes in our web page.
I've apreciated your Spanish level increased. Did you start your spanish class?
Hello Jesus. A national training camp sounds very impressive. It will be good to see you again.
evening, bollock corrected, minion shot.
Greg, I suggest you buy all their stock.
Yes, Roy.
Pepone, Toñin, Mamel , and the others are keen to train and to set up the airguns as well as himselves. At least that was the first purpose. Other thing will be what are they doing at the end......you know Ossalavanes, Toñin and Mamel....quite dangerous all together
Phil, there was no need to change the scores on my account.
Yes, Jesus, I'm sure the apres shoot practice will prepare them well for the weekend, if Greg has anything to do with it. I hope they're practicing eating "shark" and chips as well.
By the way Jesus, is there anything that you and your compatriots will need for the weekend?
Je,je,je...¡shark!. I remember some potatos around one shark!. Oh dear!
Nice feelings forever-
I hope this new event will provide to us exciting experiences an very good regards.
By the way, Roy. I'll phone you when I arrive aaat the airport in order to know the contact point where you'll wait for me. O.K.?
Yes, Roy. We'll need to meet you and all the Millrider's with his wifes permision ,in the Holliday Inn Hotel at Oldbury to have the first direct contact and to taste some Guiness....
Hi all. Jesús, I'm afraid I'm using Google Translate again, lessons don't start till Thursday.
so have they confirmed they've got a 54 greg?
Mmmmm, 7 point lead reduced to 5 Royston, are we feeling like a hunted beast yet?
Yes Phil, as you say it maybe worth a multi purchase.
good evening gentlemen. and good evening jesus.
Greg, the raging bull eh?
Jesus, I have to warn you that Greg has become very aggressive. He's now a growling beast that won't accept defeat.
Oh, I have no option but to accept my failures, there are so many but I do belive in a good psych up before an event!
Evening Ian.
It will be a pleasure to meet you again.
Ready to the European?
Roy, are you sure? What has happened with Greg to change his affable character ?. Is he becoming old man? or perhaps the doctor has forbidden to eat?
Don't worry Jesús, only one person see's my animal side.......isn't that true Roy?
GRrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
Greg, you beast.
looking foward to seeing you on friday jesus at millride. booked time off from work especially to come down. C,mon
Amigo Greg!
I'll see you soon.
Time to bed for me, amigos.
See you tomoz.
Buenas noches
Hasta luego mi amigo
See you soon.
greg, stick all targets out i is coming to practice on friday, i need it
You on the cider as well Ian?
dame right greg
Old Henney for me mate.
Guiness for me tonight.
been at local with mia,
Is it for the extra iron Roy, Doctor's orders?
Didn't you know Greg it's steel that I've got running through me.
Yeah, holding all your joints together maybe!
Evening all. I see the long range forecast for Saturday is 3mph wind. I hope it blows a hooley in the morning then suddenly drops to zero mph around the last lane of the morning round.
If only.
I dont mind it blowing Shaun, i hit more then.
Whats the situation as it stands for Friday?
Evenign again.
Friday - Dave and Greg are getting there at 10am. They're setting out a course and some plinkers. There are 14 Russians coming. Greg will provide some air as will Dave and hopefully you too Jon.
Daz is also coming and will set out some distance boards I believe. Ian will be there about lunchtime and he's keen to shoot the course.
Roy will be bringing Jesus late in the afternoon to view our ground and to check his rifle.
The more the merrier I think!
I need to be at Gatwick at about 1:45 don't I Shaun?
Yes Roy on Saturday!
eVENING.
Just concerned about the distance boards, after all thats what they are coming over for not to shoot course.
A valid point Jon hopefully you can convince Dave that they need targets or boards at 50 metres etc.
Try this link chaps, both educational and addictive.
http://www.yourchildlearns.com/mappuzzle/europe-puzzle.html
Evening all, what a week I'm haveing!!!!!
Alan's cylinder is in my hands & fully charged.
What do you mean by "what a week", apart from your medical issues, that is.
Two medical appointments, running backwards & forwards for perscriptions, collecting & getting cylinders filled, collecting W/E tickets, start of my Spanish Course tomoz, worry about that & Friday's shenanigans oh, work ontop of that little lot as well.
I need a holiday!
Where is everybody? The footy has surely finished!
I'm away to be to dream of no wind.
You had a night in Dunfermline, and you want more holiday!
Apparently!
Just a tough week, month really!
with 5 people it takes 25 minutes to put out a 30 shot coarse i know i do it each week, not afraid of a bit of work surely lads.
It's not us on here that you need to convince, Ian!!!!
I should have added that I think Greg will need all the support he can get when he gets to Millride, if you know what I mean.
no fear i will be there at one, can`t get there any sooner if i could you know i would.
Don't worry Ian,you can only do what you can do.
hi Chaps,
So there is shooting at Millride on friday...Thats a shame we have already planned to go to Redferns FTC ..to pre-shoot practice..
It's not practice for us Karl, it's just making facilities available for our foreign guests to ensure, with time to spare, that nothing untoward has befallen their equipment in transit. Anyway, what do you two need practice for.
I wish I hadn't posted that message because all I've done is edge someone closer to claiming the magical 1000. I suppose I could carry on talking to myself and claim it,but I think the 1000th should buy the drinks over the weekend.
Shame we only have four holders for the boards, we need another 6 plus 10 prints or its a waste of time.
I dont have anything here that we could use as backing or as a holder.
Put out a small course as we (John, Daz, Lee and Me)offered to do as well as a marked zero range last year, guarantee they wont shoot it almost to the point of turning their noses up!
They want to check their zero at all the ranges.
Get there and do it then Jon.
Sod the lot of you then stick with the clique.
anyone about?
Calm Down ..Calm Down...
I will have the 1000 post Yippee
hi Karl,
bit quiet tonight
Hi all, is 1001 a record?
Back from my first Spanish lesson now so what have you lot been up to?
Who's upset Jon?
