There was very little wind, the occasional gust might inadvertently cost a target but in the main it was shoot within the kill, hence high scores were expected. The morning session was topped by ex world champion Dan Eley who dropped just two targets. With such benign conditions performance on the discipline lanes will likely decide the winner and today there were ten to test and six of them were standing. The morning scores were littered with high 40’s including three shooters in A grade on 44. So the gauntlet was laid down for the afternoon squad could anyone better 48?
Here are two well dressed morning shooters: Kilty's coat hints of the Winter League
and it looks likes Lee Marshal has found a sponsor!
By 1pm it was very hot so the shaded woodland brought welcome relief. The odd breeze was for once appreciated though perhaps not by those on the firing line. I started on lane 3 with Hugh Osborne and Brian Samson. To my left Greg was hoping to pick up some tips from another ex world champion James Osborne.
It is a pleasure just to be in the woods at Newbury, sometimes the position of the lane can give the impression that you’re on your own and only the regular sound of targets falling over breaks the spell.
After eight lanes the course rotated 180 degrees, at the turn of four lanes two were standing and one was kneeling; was this to be amen corner?
British Champion Nick Murphy competing in the piston class shows off his standing style
There then soon followed another adjacent pair of discipline lanes and when, after these, James Osborne was still clear a buzz of anticipation could be felt; could he clear the course? FT has this way of spreading information, quickly it was established that a 50 shot GP course had never before been cleared. There were still plenty of targets to conquer and many were testing; a good number were long range that would surely punish a nervous twitch. As he came to his last lane, still clear, I paused from my own turn to watch. He was shooting the lane I had started on so I knew the first was close to full range; it went over. With number 49 down I heard his shooting partner, Chris Briscoe, comment “that’s the hard one“. James replied “no, this is the hard one”. Over it went and the BFTA had its first clearance on a 50 shot GP course; well done Mr Osborne!
And here's the proof!
The clearance perhaps overshadowed some other high scoring. Once again Marc Fisher with 46 scored more with a springer than most AA shooters do with a PCP. A grade was won with a incredible 48 from Simon Pattle, 44 took B grade honours for Peter Moore and congratulations to Jack Harris who won C grade, at his first GP, with 39. Hats off also to Brian Samson who showed great shooting skill to record the highest ever SFT score of 42.
So after a 49 at Iceni James goes 1 better at Newbury; will it be 51 next time!
So we leave Newbury until the Masters on September 5th and for those lucky 64 the Showdown on the 6th.

what news from the BFTA?
In & out I'm afraid, AFK to see Terminator Salvation, catch you later if you are all still compus mentis.
Hope you had a good day's shopping Phil!!!!
Scores from toay that I know of,
Debbie, Greg and myself 24, Jonta 28, Ian 24, Phil J 21 (I think). can't remember any others but I'm sure Greg will have something to add.
good day, shopping, in the same sentence? are you mad? I survived it, thats about it.
it felt weird not shooting I must admit.
Good scoring, matched Ian S?
Did it rain?
Sorry. Ian was 26. I put 24 because I was thinking about the 4 that he dropped.
Little shower but it soon passed.
still a great score.
was it with slimmed down filler cover fitted?
Yes.
I had a go with Jonta's gun today. Beautifully balanced and the butt hook coupled with that thigh rest thingy made it awesome. With the hook tucked under my arm and the gun resting on my knee it was as stable as anything, even without needing a hand to steady it.
I'm looking at the butt hooks, they seem to make a difference.
The thigh thingys look good, but they are like white football boots, if you turn up with them, you need to be pretty good or you look a berk.
I said exactly the same thing to Greg today, except that I gave the example of gold boots.
I think that PMCB (???) hook could be worth looking at, but based on what I experienced today the thigh support would have to be considered, and sod the colour of the boots.
"I said exactly the same thing to Greg today, except that I gave the example of gold boots."
This analogy was wasted on Greg, of cousre.
I may have a supplier for a butt hook that is a cross between the PMCB and the one Shaun has just bought. He will let me know next week if can do one, you may be interested too.
Yes I would.
Incedentally, today, Phil J was using one of the type that Shaun bought. It looked good, and he said it felt right as well. Like Shaun, he'll have to work at it and that could be why he was disappointed with his score today.
the guy said he'd get back to me, so I'll let you know
Not worth the hassle making at around 100 quid each with more adj than the 4765 Anchutz. Most went to NI up to 9 years ago.

3 on 29 today Karl, John and me.
hi Jon,
the one this guy makes is just a hook, fitted as an addendum to the existing Steyr butt plate
Hello, anyone still here?
T Sal was great, the snob reviewer on Radio4 just didn't get it!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, Ian got 26 today & was disappointed, Phil got 21/255 today & was disappointed & to be fair when I saw I hadn't matched last weeks 25 I felt a little twinge of that special FT dissatisfaction.....I'm sure Karl, Jon & Jonta were all thinking of the one they dropped on the way home.
IT'S GREAT THIS FT INIT?
Check out this clip of a Yank FT comp. Interesting to see how the game is played elswhere;

Greg, above is a link to a US blog, not unlike our own. Also gives a good insight to their FT adventures.
I'm back from my day with Mom, we ended up at my brother's place as he was having a BBQ(cue the rain!) & I ate far too much meat!
I've managed to replace my oversized padlocks with two that DO fit!
Nice one Phil, we've seen this one before though, I recognise that marvelous Planter's hat!
Come on boy's, report back from Sywell, FC, the 'wedge. I need vicarious shooting news!
Afternoon all.
I went out last night and when Evelyn told me the taxi was booked for 11.30 I exclaimed "11.30 I want to be in bed by then!"
I got in at 01.45
However, I did visit FC if perhaps I shouldn't. There was only 6 people there. Neale had put the course out different. The line of fire ran down the usual plinkers. There were 3 lanes to the left, 1 across the pool, and the rest were shooting into the wood. I dropped 6, the wind was occasional and enough to move a killzone.
Greg, no FC for you?
who went to Sywell?
Alright fellas.
Just been talking to Paul, he wasn't able to shoot today so his 40, 45, 50 & 55 yarders are still something of a mystery. I think therefore a Greyhound visit is necessary one evening, Shaun do you fancy a bit of Greyhound action at all?
Will a Taylor 30mm pointer fit on Paul's scope do you think?
No Shaun, decided early on that today was going to be a lead free Mom type day.
Ian was the only taker for Sywell I believe. I'm surprised Neal M was at FC as the talk was of him going to Sywell himself!
Hi Greg, I'm sure the pointer will fit.
I don't think I'll make the Greyhound I'm afraid.
Parents just arrived for Father's day Chinese. My stomach would like toast!
Prawn/sesami toast, a good compromise!
Was there enough tube showing for the pointer Shaun?
News from the Womborne Sniper. 43ex50 1st in A grade! Whoohooooo! Well done that man!
great shooting, go Millride, go Millride, go Millride
Just sent a text to Ian to congratulate him and to ask if he was happy. I can report that there's no need to worry on his behalf because he said that although he did smile briefly he is unhappy about the 2 standers he missed.
I'd be worried if it was any different!
You up for some Greyhound action in the week young Royston?
Well done Ian!!!
"You up for some Greyhound action in the week young Royston?"
Come on Greg, tease me, make me ache for it, take me.
Err, just abit of shooting matey!(Backs away in a nervous fashion.)
Sorry Greg. I listened to the omnibus edition of the Archers today. It gets a bit raunchy sometimes.
Tell me about Greyhound, Greg. What exactly is it and where is it, and when were you thinking of.
A necessity for Paul for a confident Dunfermline, by Coventry. A permanent ground useful for setting up of a Summer evening. Possibly Tuesday, though that might change.
That could be a goer for me. Keep me informed.
By the way Greg, have you been in contact with Jesus yet?
No, not yet. I'll mail him now.
Mail sent.
For those of us on route to Sunny Euskadi, have a look at these piccies of a HFT Comp held on the same ground;
http://img524.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=p6210025.jpg
Greg you have e-mail
How come none of you lot went to Sywell?
Some friends called in on their way back from Silverstone. It took them 3.5 hours to get off the car park and another 2 hours to get to us.
Jon, my Mom hasn't been well recently & as I've got a busy few weeks of shooting infront of me, I thought I'd take her out in the car to get her out the house.
Ian went though. Did you shoot, what did you score?
I day go, cos I ay got a gun :(
For those who weren't at M/r yesterday, did we mention that Jonta's thinking about going to Dunfermline. If he does, he'll be travelling in with me and Ian.
Excellent news Roy.
44 pig sick, missed a stander only 16 yards and another last shot of the 50 that i should have known better- wind changing directions. That alone would have tied with top score excluding the three misranged and another 36 yard stander that should have gone.
John Chopping won it with 46, Gillot, Harrison on 45.
So near yet so far.
I won Sywell Open A 3 yrs ago.
Looks like it was close at the top, what were the conditions then?
Phil he started doing than a few years back and touting for work.
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL15/728921/1243581/50124769.jpg
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL15/728921/1243581/40819801.jpg
is that the guy who did Shaun's EV2 hook?
Mixture of lighting very bright to dull with the usual changing Sywell wind.
Not much wind worst was a target around 45 yards and needed 1 1/4 kills out. Most of the 3 sections required around a kill out over 50 yards either way.
You missed a good day.
Oh well, can't do 'em all I 'spose! Getting my fill over the next few weeks, GP5, Euskadi, Warks Open.....Trudy will be a busy girl!
Roy, are you still here mate? We've got a hot transmission to Jesús concerning your entry asking for some details. I'm just clarifying what.
He's VERY pleased you're going BTW!
Looks like another Sunday off for me then next week.
Millrides making a strong presence up north mate, not fancy it?
I'm here Greg.
Just a quick visit guy`s. Roy got the all clear for Dunfermline. Will blog in the week mate..
Excellent. I know I can rely on you not to abuse my tent. Unlike the other riff raff.
Top news Jonta!
Ignore them Roy. Mark is lending me is one-man by the way... got to go will speak in the week guy`s..
Goodnight shooters.
Roy, you will need to send to me, Shaun or directly to Jesús your;
Passport number =
Airgun model =
Serial number =
Calibre = 4.5mm
OK mate?
Could you text or pm or email me direct with his address please.
Check your mail Roy.
Received, thanks Greg. I'll be needing to discuss the formalities and procedures with Shaun tomorrow perhaps.
Okey Dokey, BP night down the 49th tomorrow so could be late.
Nighty-night all.
Evening bloggers.
I had an intesting walk along the canal this afternoon. I saw a fox and was within a few feet of a swimming mink.
did you wag off school again?
have a look at the Falcon Accuracy plus pellets on Uttings' site.
7.3 grain, that means you could run them at 860 fps!!!
No I chose to walk home (well half way) as I can't play footy after I turned an ankle.
worth a go?
they sound interesting. not sure of quality or consistency.
£6.99 for a tin, £7.95 for postage!!!
if 5 of us wanted to try 100, that would be £3 each.
10 tins are £64, so £72 for 10 tins isn't too bad
they would take around 10 clicks off my 55 yards
as long as they didn't wobble all over the place.
bugger. Thought there was a new "Waking the Dead", settled down and bang ... seen it!
bummer
i guess greg is making big bangs and roy & jonta are packing their tents
Yes Greg is powder burning and Roy and Jonta will be polishing their Steyrs
hows your butt? settled in yet?
Has a little practise this evening. Dropped the hamster, feels okay though still needs work.
Thinking about riser blocks again.
and you call me a messer
I haven't messed yet.
give it time
Evening Chaps.
Well, that's the tent packed and the Steyr polished. I wonder if there's anything else I need to do.
polish the tent and pack the steyr?
Evening all, I feel spiritually cleansed by my black Powder experience!(well, pyrodex strictly speaking)
Object, just to try & hit the target or atleast get on the paper. Forget about scoring & Bullseyes. Alan dispenced with the traditional target altogether & put up a length of wallpaper with a 5cm circle marker penned in the middle!
did he hit it?
The Wallpaper, yes. The Black circle, once!
has Alan stopped airgunning?
He says not but he hasn't been down Millride this year yet & frankly he still has the same air in his tank that he had when he bought it. I said to him tonight that he'd be better off selling up & buying a AK47 in .22, (something he really wants!) with the cash. I think he's put his MTC on his Centre fire rifle anyway.
Roy, all sorted with Jesús?
Evening Roy and Greg
he said 4 hail marys and promised he'd wear boxing gloves to bed in future
Hi all, just thought I'd say Hello
ah, its Berty big scope.
Hi Phil, yes it is rather large and impressive
and the scope?
Hiya Shaun.
I'm waiting on a text from Paul to say if we're going to the Greyhound tomorrow.
Hi Paul, Scotland in 5 days and counting.
.............and here he is!
Paul, are we going to Greyhound tomorrow?
only the scope i'm afraid!
Yes mate I'm up for it
where shall i meet you
OK, I work till 6 & Google says it's 40 mins or so so I'll see you there about 6.45-6.55. What ETA are you looking at?
That should be fine.do you have an address for it?
The Greyhound Inn
Sutton Stop
Longford, Coventry, West Midlands, CV6 6DF
Jesus...... Think so Greg.
Regret to say that I may not be able to make it tomorrow night. J has arranged for us to take her parents out tomorrow afternoon but I wasn't aware of this last night.
Cheers mate. I put the pointer off the custom shop on to the nikko.
Just need to sort my clicks out now and put some temp distances on the sidewheel
We need to get together for a beer a a logistics chat about Scotland & Spain, anybody got any preferences?
Shaun, at what point do you inform the airline about the rifle, at the time of booking or afterwards. Are any more costs incurred as a result?
Right, I'm off to get my tea. Have a little conflab & tell me what night you want to get together for this War Council.
Roy did you pay for the transport of the gun when you booked the flight?
Haven't done it yet. Wanted to get low-down first.
You pay for the transport of the rifle, it's one of the extra options, then contact Easyjet by phone. They then handled ny query very efficiently by e-mail.
OK, thanks
Just looked at Easyjet site. It's telling me that total cost is £241 Is this what you paid?
approximately
let me look at my invoice
I didn't think you understood the concept of "approximatelty".
yep about £222 including rifles and insurancejavascript:void(0)
sorry for the last bit, not sure what that's about.
A reminder we're on the 7.30am on Friday 10th and 11am on Monday 13th.
Thanks.
I hope all you guys enjoyed your time at the Greyhound. Personally dog racing has never attracted me.
shaun, LG110 on BBS
http://www.airgunbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=380415
I'm often told that I'm going to the dogs.
Any thoughts on the weekend Shaun. What time do you anticipate starting, pit stops where we can possibly meet up etc?
pit stops will obviously depend on strategy.
Will you be going prime, prime then option with a short first stint, hoping to get track position and then running long in the middle sector?
If so, I'd go for Knutsford and Tebay.
If you get stuck behind a backmarker, you may be able to go to a lower fuel mixture and eek it out to Southwaite.
Hope that helps
Oh, and don't forget your pellets.
Pellets will add unnecessary weight.
Yes Phil, there is a strategy. They tell me that my tent's too big for the site so I've got to get there first and nick the available space.
Listen to Ross Brawn.
Roy tradition dictates that we stop for KFC in the first services after the M6 ends. I'll check out the name. I think we should aim to get there about half four/five. This leaves time to put the tents up and have an explore.
I've also got to put a soundproof barrier around my encampment.
"I think we've overdone it with the sherry"
Always makes me smile
Do you mean get to the final destination at that time or KFC?
I could get you some earplugs from work.
Maybe 2-300 dropped in his mouth at an opportune moment might do the trick?
http://uk.weather.com/weather/10day-Dunfermline-UKXX0046
don't forget your pac-a-macs
Yes Roy I thought that when I read it.
Arrive a Dunfermline 4.30/5
oh bugger . . . at Dunfermline
Hard day, Shaun?
Are you at the home-work stage yet?
soon.
Gretna Green services on the M74, just into Scotland.
you could get married whilst you're there
EV2 mk3 for £800 on the BBS, is this the new stock jobbie?
Guy is a dealer though, always seems to have a gun for sale
About 195 miles according to multimap. About 2.75 hours then.
I can't imagine Ian wanting to go anywhere near Gretna then.
On the road about 11.30 - 12.00 for us then, I'd say?
i'd say 5 hours plus time for stop and 300 miles at least
A bit earlier for us. M6 won't likely be easy.
3 1/2 hours to services if lucky.
45 mins scoffing
2 1/2 hours to Dunfermline
Meet you in the services at 1.30pm
It's a date.
See ya.
Evening all! Any tales from the Greyhound?
Evening chaps.
An interesting & potentially very useful place the Greyhound!
Quite an extensive plinking range with measured plates at the vital ranges so if some emergency work needs doing scope-wise there is an obvious place to repair to, covered shooting line as well with benches to shoot off.
We only saw one fella there, Mark but he seemed very nice & when he left we had the place to ourselves, just what Paul needed!
The only range not provided was an 8 yarder but my trusty branflake box & Argos catalogue surficed. It is what I said before though, the longer ranges are close together for Paul on the provided wheel, maybe tricky for him to distinguish but the optics on that scope are much brighter than our mkII Niko's, very clear. If he slaps a Shark-fin or a big wheel on that there will be no stopping him!
Well, flight booked. Quite a price hike over yours though.
You mentioned having to make a phone call to Easyjet ref the gun. Where does this come in because I've seen no reference to it.
Jesus also mentioned that you had an AFTE certificate/invitation signed by Jose. Where do I get this from?
Evening Mr C how`s it hanging.
Sorry guys not being ignorant, only Mr C comment on before I posted. All must went on the same time.
Roy, you've got your 'Dorsal' matey;
http://www.airgunforum.net/agf/index.php?showtopic=47675&pid=323794&st=30&#entry323794
Jonta, have you got my number. If not, I'll text you with it. We need to be on the M6 at about 10.30 if we're to make our rendevous at Gretna Green. If you text me your address me and Ian will pick you up at about 10.15. Is that acceptable?
Hiya boys. Are getting excited yet?
Roy not got your number, everything seems ok with me mate. As for address Ian knows where I live if I am last pick up.
I managed to staple my finger tip yesterday with one of those Staple Guns rather than a standard Stapler, I think I hit bone, still hurts like blazes now!
Hope it were`nt your trigger finger Greg..... In fact that could be your new nickname TRIGGER
No mate, it was my middle finger on my left hand. What do I use that for now......let me think?
Hope your not being aggressive Trig.
Have you seen the PT`s for sale on the BBS the last couple of days.
Are they forcing the 2nd hand price down?
Jonta, Trigger's mine. Got it about 45 years ago!!!!. I'll tell you about it when I see you.
"Roy, you've got your 'Dorsal' matey"
From looking at previous pictures I presume these are what you wear on your back and will be issued over there???
Greg did you go straight at it or did give it wind, with staple gun that is.........
Jonta, at that mv! Straight at it matey!!!!
Arby, yes apparently. Have you got your Euskadi Flash sewn on yet?
Weather forecast for weekend which I have says light rain around 04.00 sunday morning then part cloudy till ten then sunny the rest of the day.. fingers crossed.
If Phil comes on when I have gone can anyone find out if he will be there saturday to help Daz with coarse.
Will do Jonta.
"Have you got your Euskadi Flash sewn on yet?"
If you mean the cloth badges that Jesus gave us, then no. I'd rather keep it safe and separate. Besides which, I've got nothing suitable to sew it too. Perhaps I'll get a tattoo.
Will blog tomorrow guys..
Bye Jonta.
Where's Shaun gone?
I'm here, rather nice stroll to the Fingerpost for tea.
I'll be there Saturday Jonta, hopefully to try out the new championship winning Steyr.
However, I'd rather be on my way to bonnie Scotland.
Shaun be be dreaming of quadratic equations whilst dribbling his tea down his winnie the pooh p-j's
Will you be starting your GP Season then Phil?
Not sure Greg.
Obviously won't be doing 5, I think 6 is full, maybe for 7 and 8, on hollibobs for 9.
Plan to do Warks Open.
what was that pm on stb this morning greg?
Evening all. Jonta,
Have you heard from GR about your gun yet Phil. Hope all goes well on Sat if that's the day.
Glad Paul's sorted as well.
Sorry that makes no sense. I started a comment and then got distacted. We are having school issue and I'm having to write a "letter".
He doesn't have my details Roy, so no.
Hopefully it will be like Christmas morning and Santa has filled my sack.....
I thought you'd been told to leave that boy alone?
"Santa has filled my sack....."
Does that happen often then Phil or just once a year? And how big's the sack?
Roy phone this number 0871 244 2366, if it is like my experience they will start e-mail cooms with you.
You could try e-mailing them
easyjet@mailnj.custhelp.com
feel free to quote my incident number
[Incident: 090605-000343]
The invitations from Euskedi are sitting on my desk. I'll bring one on Saturday.
Have you not had the pleasure of Santa's sack?
"We are having school issue and I'm having to write a "letter"."
"Had a bileous attack" was always a well used phrase in my day. Never had one myself so I was always intrigued to know what one was.
Thanks for the info Shaun, customer services open at 8 tomorrow, will give them a call then.
I had a bileous attack once, atleast I think it was a bileous attack, everyone said it was anyway!
Phil, I'm in the habit of checking the late, overnight or very early traffic on the forums when I get up & I caught you checking out a Steyr on STB.
Greg, J's just telling me she had a bileous attack most weeks when it was swimming or PE. She never knew what one was though. She seems to remember that her mother spelled it differently on every letter she wrote.
letter written
It's so close to 400 I'd have thought that Gregory would have stayed up.
no he's not around
and once again he misses the chance of the number he so desires.
I prefer this one!
