It was an early start for the journey to Iceni; memories of the Millride wind and rain were soon forgotten as we drove east into blue skies and warm sunshine.
The Iceni ground was superb. It consisted of a field and acres of beautiful mature English woodland. The clear skies meant that it was sun bathing weather in the open and the woodland canopy offered shelter and a cooling breeze was very welcome.A walk of the course revealed that conditions were very favourable for high scoring. There was enough wind to cause problems though, particularly the six targets positioned in the field. This St George Cross occasionally opened to show the word Iceni, it spent much of the day moving from left to right and offered help and confusion to the watching competitors.
Everybody was revelling in the glorious weather. Here are a couple of spring boys enjoying the summer climate.
And these two are relaxing between lanes.
Michael G Cotter sticks to business and bags a pair of kneelers.
The morning scores were high lead by Andrew Gillott and Simon Ayres who both dropped only two, also congratulations to Mick Woodhead for an excellent 47 which would win him A grade. After a quick refill, Greg you look guilty, it was time for the afternoon round and off we set.The sounds of falling targets echoed around the wood and in every direction smiling faces finally buried the Millride demons. The course was excellent; it offered plenty of targets that every shooter might expect to get and some to challenge the very best shots. I really enjoyed being in this woodland, a cuckoo could be heard calling and many other birds offered their song. There was some wind but the trees and ferns protected many of the targets that was until I found lane one. It consisted of a 40 yarder low in the grass and a 50 yarder high up on a cage. I missed the low shot with my pellet taking about a kill and a half of wind, I moved to the high target to find it virtually paintless and all I could do was remove a bit more! I wasn't alone in missing as James Osborne also dropped this one on his way to an outstanding 49.
A first class day out and many thanks to the Iceni team for their hard work. It's back to Newbury in two weeks time; let's hope for more of this weather!

is there a prize for posting on the 200 multiples?
Darn it!!!!
Thanks lads. I'm sure I'll enjoy the highlights later.
I was only saying today that as a protest against what I perceive to be the "dumbing down" of cricket I haven't watched a 20/20 game yet. I suppose you're gonna say "how do you know if you haven't watched it"....No answer!

list of the world championship hosts,
quite a wait until it returns to our shores...
Roy, any decisions regarding Euskadi mucker, Jesús is enquiring?
Shaun, a 'Dorsal' is a label that is to be attached to our backs, hese dorsal I presume, so that we can be identified without using dental records!
Just kidding! Apparently it's the form over there to be identifiable from this label. Should make a good keepsake.
"List of the world championship hosts,
quite a wait until it returns to our shores..."
Not necessarily, how many can actually host one if offered?
Not yet I'm afraid Greg.
What time tomorrow?
I dunno matey, no sign of Jonta yet. Realistically probably be about 10 O'clock for me I 'spose.
No one about, Match Of The Day must of started.
I'm signing off now as well. See you tomorrow.
Evening Greg I've just returned from a Badger experience.
There's a sett not far from me that I decided to visit. As I arrived a young (or small) badger emerged. I watched for about 5 mins before it decided to return indoors; magic!
Nice one Shaun, Badger Watch. Do you think it's the one that patrols through your garden?
No it was in the Lickey woods. I'll show you sometime.
night!
Afternoon all!
I'm hungry for FT news. What was the Chase like? How did the guys in the AA fair? Did Ian hold on to top spot in A grade?
News from AA.
Ian didn't make the top 3.
Another depressingly unsuccessful day at trying to shoot my rifle, I cruised up & down Coleshill road trying to find Purley Chase, eventually gave up & headed towards Roughwedge only to find myself trapped on the M6 toll road without any change. 2 & 1/2 hours of driving & never got Trudy out of her case!
Newbury is going to be dead dodgy now without clicks!
Here are the positions but info on individual scores yet.

Very disappointed not to have made it to PC today. Woke at about 5.30 to torrential downpour which I hoped would clear. Watched it, hoping it would clear, but it didn't, giving rise to local flooding. I couldn't imagine any Millriders going, particularly in view of the difficulty of access and departure when the lane there gets muddy. Left a message for Greg to see if he was going and waited awhile. I couldn't call Jonta because I couldn't find his number. It seemed to be abating so I got in the car to leave, but as I did so the heavens opened again, so I went back indoors.
At about 10.20 Greg phoned to say that he was in the vicinity of PC but had become spatially challenged. We then agreed to meet at Rough Wedge (at this point the rain had almost stopped) On the way to RW went through 4 floods and the torrential rain started again. Got to RW and there were only 3 or 4 cars there and nobody was on the course. Waited about 40 mins for Greg but then he phoned to say that he was back at Gravelly Hill after taking a wrong turn onto the Toll Road. (This is another story that I'm sure he'll tell you later.)
The last I heard, Greg was "expletive" going to buy an "expletive" satnav so that he wouldn't keep getting "expletive" lost in this "expletive" country with its "expletive" summer weather.
Greg was not happy.
I'm such a slow typist that by the time I'd finished that last post Greg had already come on and explained.
well I'm off for a BBQ in this expletive summer weather. However, don't tell anyone but I really would like to watch England in the 20-20.
Roy, I got one but came close to filling a little............in, cheeky *&^%$£!!! NEVER BE TEMPTED TO USE, FREQUENT OR PATRONISE HIGH GATE CURRY'S!
Anyway I wound up at Halfords in Selly Oak & bought a TomTom XL V2 ex-display minus the instructions for £120. It's charging downstairs as we speak, just need to find out how to use it now.
To be fair I don't see how it could of helped me today as I knew I was in the right place, I just couldn't see the entrance! The rain was a swine though, I don't think I could have achieved much in it!
Greg, If you can get away from work early why not come over to MR sometime next week, (not Tuesday). It's open 'till 8. I'll provide the paper targets if you'd like.
Not a hope mate. I work 10-6 mon-fri & the Pm is our busy time. I'd have to book a days hols & then if it rains again..........
I rose fashionably late and watched the processional formula one race and ate a sumptuous lunch.
Cleaned the EV ready for its departure mid week and am now surfing the world wide web in search of things to expand my mind.
I hope you're not hoping to expand your mind on this site?
I think I need another beer!
I think it'll take more than 1 beer to calm you down today Greg.
theres always a first time
Anyone know the BC of mozzies?
it is quoted as 0.021 for JSB Express. the same as my JSB Exacts, but I find 0.027 correlates best with my testing for the Exacts.
so, I would say somewhere between 0.021 and 0.027
do you know what your current clicks are, the mv they were set with, scope height, and the new mv?
I could work it out for you.
Cheers mate
if you tell me the old mv, scope height, xero distance, and clicks for say 15 and 55 yards, I'll work out what the BC is for the mozzies using your gun, and then we can out in the new mv and see how it changes the clicks
"if you tell me the old mv, scope height, xero distance, and clicks for say 15 and 55 yards, I'll work out what the BC is for the mozzies using your gun, and then we can out in the new mv and see how it changes the clicks"
792fps, 2 1/4", 40yards, 15=25 & 55=40
they don't add up Greg, you sure of all those figures?
clicks don't seem right for 15 yards?
It's what's on my existing crib chart & the close ones tended to work. What do you make my 15 yards then?
with a 2.25 scope height, 792fps, 7.9 grain pellets, to get 40 clicks at 55 yards I need to reduce BC to 0.0165 which seems low, and at 15 yards this only needs 1 click, and at 25 yards you need -19 clicks...
is that 2.25 inch for scope centre line to barrel centre line?
I measured from the middle of the front objective, roughly but can't be far out, to the middle of the bore & the figure I reached sounded familiar to the last time we did it. 7.9 grn is a figure of record & I ran at about that mv most of last season, I'm not sure about the BC but 0.021 seemed familiar again from the last time we needed such a thing.
25 yards is zero clicks for me & 40 yards 10 clicks, again tried over & over so they have to be right.
Shaun has said that a high scope measurement can bugger up Chairgun though!
so, is the following correct:
zero = 25 yards
25 clicks at 15 yards
10 clicks at 40 yards
40 clicks at 55 yards
zero clicks at 25 yards, 25 yards isn't my zero. This FT lark is confusing isn't it?
Yes mate;
8 yards 118
10 yards 76
15 yards 25
20 yards 6
25 yards 0
30 yards 1
35 yards 4
40 yards 10
45 yards 18
50 yards 27
55 yards 40
I'm getting closer now.
Looking at my little list there the 2 points my clicks correspond are roughly 15 & 50 yards, does that mean my primary zero was 50 yards all this time? I'm confused now!
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/8708/greg792.jpg
have a look at that, that's about as close as I can get with your current figures.
I think your 50 yard mark is actually 49 yards and your 40 yards could be 39 yards, although both are only 1 or 2 clicks out.
If these seem somewhere close, tell me your new mv and I'll see what effect that has.
New mv is 805-807fps
here is the new list for 806fps, not much change at all.
Infact if I up the mv to 797 for the original chart, the clicks fit slightly better.
So, I would say there will be very little difference in clicks between the 2 mv's.
http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/4199/greg806.jpg
the clicks being the same for 15 and 50, just mean the pellet passes through the same horizontal line as it loops up and then back down again.
Your zero is at 25 yards and 30 yards, that is where your clicks are, surprisingly, zero.
Cheers for that Phil. That's encourageing, very little to change. Ian did suggest I'd be losing quite a few clicks from 45 yards out so I'm surprised.
BTW scores as reported to me for today's Anglo's;
Daz 39, Will 33, Ian 31, Mitch 29, Karl & Debbie NK
all the scores are now on the bbs.
if you are going from 792 to 806, then you won't notice much difference at all, just the odd click or two less on the longer ones and the odd click extra on the short ones
infact looking at the results Greg, I wouldn't even worry on the distances out to 40 yards, there is only 1 click in it. You just need to check your 45, 50 and 55 yards, which I estimate should reduce by just 2 clicks
From 792 up to 806 fps yes, your probably right but of course I've drifted down to 777fps more recently & that's what Ian probably meant. I had to had 7 clicks for 55 yards at ICENI.
yes, 777 would add 5 clicks at 55 yards using the software, so we seem in the right ballpark with the calcs.
Shaun will be disappointed he missed some maths
All the Tom Tom owners in the house go, "AYE!"
Just having a play but the time seems to be in British Winter time, an hour behind! How do you alter the time or is it related to a GPS signal?
I'd be interested to hear if Steve and Lee shot at PC today, and what the conditions were like.
http://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals/xl30/refman/TomTom-XL-en-GB.pdf
xl user guide.
All sorted now, I stumbled across it looking for something else.
you tap the map bit, then tap change preferences, scroll right to set clock at voila
Evening all!
I'm back after 5 bottles of Stella and one very small Talisker.
An interesting debate reference clicks. However, I detect a slight mathematical error.
If the parameters of the model are changed then only two points of the old and new path will be simultaneous. Hence you must zero the gun at any fixed distance before accepting Chairgun results.
Purley Coordinates, feed in & stored!
Scores for the 'ride;
Debs 24 24=48
Mitch 27 29=56
Mick 38 41=69
Karl 37 33=70
Ian 45 31=76
Oooh, forgot Daz;
Daz 42 39=81
Hello Shaun.
I did ask Greg the distance at which he zero'd his gun, but wasn't able to decipher the answer
Evening Phil. That sounds like Gregory but be careful he's inclined towards aggression these days ... sshh
IT'S ABOUT 40 YARDS, ALRIGHT!!!!!!!
I can't keep that up, my fingertips get sore!
it's ok. even if he wanted to attack me, he wouldn't be able to find me...
As long as I can find your coordinates Phil I can track you down like a wild Antelope!
Still no sign of the bag from JSR BTW!
how about if i wander 50 yards down the road?
or disguise myself as the entrance to Purley Chase?
You MAY be safe then admittedly!
Don't stand on the Toll Road though.
that's a bit roughwedge Phil
I agree, It's the thin end of the Rough Wedge.
Don't you lot think I've had a tough enough day!
how about the toll booth? i would be safe there.
do you think its time to CHANGE the subject?
Roughage is very good for the digestion.
Greg's not listening, he's watching the latest excerpt of Lost.
he probably went downstairs for a beer and got lost
I'm putting Trudy away ACTUALLY!
Still dry after today.......sad!
Now a beer IS a good idea!
One bottle of beer and he'll be singing "Show me the way to go home"
have you put the co-ordinates of trudy into the tomtom for later re-location?
Come on guys cut to the Chase!
This is Purley bad taste.
It's always fertile ground when Greg's involved isn't it.
Greg that B grade trophy at Newbuty's got your name on it mate.
Goodnight all!
Just a thought... but how does he find his way round the warehouse? Or for that matter, from muzzle to target.
we wont be laughing next week when Greg storms B grade.
Thats assuming he finds Newbury of course.
Yes, go for it Greg.
Goodnight.
anyone here?
Evening Phil!
I'm here but I'm going for a walk sortly.
well, I've got some news of sorts.
The other guy who was in the running with me for the job at Birmingham was told today he is the one 'at risk' of redundancy.
So, as I've not been told this, I guess I am safe.
good news Phil. A Leupold to celebrate?
Evening Gregory.
I might splash out on a tin of pellets
Hi gents,
Just read all the comments and you have had me in stitches (sorry Greg), will he find his way back from his walk?, bet he took his "tom-tom" with him just incase?
Purley was a washout Sunday, still drying out kit and gun.
Glad to hear your good news Phil.
Hiya Swifty,
We put a course out Saturday, stood there for 3 hours waiting for the rain to stop, which it didn't, so we got the course back in without a shot being fired, and trooped off home, soaking wet.
Don't you just love it?
Evening everybody. Glad you enjoyed our Greg bating session Steve. I hope Greg hasn't gone for one of those Capt Oates "I am just going outside and may be some time" type walks.
Evening guys, not shot a single pellet all weekend. So went down the pub yesterday afternoon to go on the p..s
Evening chaps.
Jonta and Swifty are you shooting Newbury?
Yes Mr C, i`m a pm shooter this time along with Bandit and Mitch.
All the best are Jonta!!!
Hope the weather will be a little kinder this weeekend.
Forecast for Saturday is sunny. Fingers crossed.
Saturday is a long way off yet. Still time for it to go t..s up
Evening all, I made it back!
Jonta, sorry I wasn't there to help on Saturday like I promised but circumstances were stacked against me..........and Paul had the squits!
So, what are we going to debate tonight then?
No problem Greg, you did not miss anything other than getting soaked and all for nothing,
Shaun,
Fingers crossed!!!!!.
Hope the weather is better than last weekend, we put full 30 targets out and only shot 20 before we had to pack up soaked to the skin (gortex my ****). Took the EV apart and you would not believe how much water in the trigger mech.
Shaun have you ever checked yours?.
Have you spoke to the Sniper at all, he seemed a bit down after yesterday, as much as you can tell from a text anyway!
Don't put doubt in my mind Steve. I'm eager to try my new butt in sunny weather.
Better put some lotion on 1st then mr C.
That would make a photo!
Shaun,
Have you removed the cover plate on your EV and relubed mech?.
Greg,
I have the same Sat nav so if you need help give me ring.
Steve your making me worried. Do you suggest I do?
Cheers Steve. I'm currently loading GPS coordinates into it. It had an interesting view on my journey to work however, very perculiar!
I'm off to Nelson at the moment in demo mode.
Shaun,
Removed mine last night and full of water droplets and signs of rust (very minor)and in need of some lube. Spoke to fellow EV owner and his was the same?
I have followed handbook and re-lubed. And all seems nice and smooth and trigger feels better.
So just a heads up after soaking at Millride gp.
Okay Steve I'll have look after Newbury. Ta!
Greg,
Same here, mine has taken me on some strange routes at times but it down to the settings you put in.
Hi Steve, I have never used one or felt the need for one. I cover approx 70,000 miles on our roads per year. Have a look at a map on the net the night before then use the position of the sun....
night guys!
How do I find coordinates for a location, is there a site?
C u later guy`s battery about to go.
I have got to get you a set of jump leads Jonta, you're always running flat!
Night Gents
Greg, I've just emailed you with a few co-ordinates.
Cheers Roy.
Greg,
co-ordinates for Castle: 53.03014, -1.25277
These take you to the track just before the bridge over the motorway. If you use the actual co-ordinates for the shooting ground, then your sat nav will drop you on the hard shoulder of the M1 about 100yards away, so be careful which co-ordinates you use.
It's the same for Far Coley, you need to use the location of the farm, rather than the actual shooting ground.
If you go to the Millride Website and look on the Winter League page, there are google maps for each of the Winter League grounds.
If you click on the blue pins which identify the locations and enter your postcode, google will give you directions, but more importantly, the destination is then shown as latitude and longitude, ideal for your sat nav.
Phil ,,, you're country needs you!
as what? a lert?
sorry... your country needs you!
as what?
the oracle of web information.
I see Steve Cheung just sold a big Nikko mk 3 for £400 on the BBS.
New Emley Moor and Nelson co-ordinates here:
http://www.shooting-the-breeze.com/forums/showthread.php?t=897
Are there any you don't have?
I have to drop the EV2 off at the Paragon Hotel in Alcester Street tomorrow night.
I have the tomtom to take me, but does anyone know it?
I know where it is, shall I describe?
please
I'm assuming that you are coming into B'ham on the A34. When you get to the Aston Univ roundabout you have the option of following the A34 or taking the A38. I shall take you along the A38, through the underpasses. Stay on the 38 until you reach the major crossroads at Lea End. This is just past Bristol Street Motors and a there is a big church on your left. At the crossroads turn left and then at the next roundabout turn left. Carry on along this road and take the second right (I think it's the second you turn just before the Chinese wholesalers). The Paragon is a big brown building on the right hand side of the road that you are on (the road bends to the left and there is a park on the right then the hotel). It is a big hotel but parking is limited to the roadside. This is not the nicest part of Birmingham.
If you stay on the A34 and come down Digbeth High Street then turn right before the huge Renault showroom. (There may be some one-way restrictions since the town centre was changed).
Cheers Phil, hiya boys. I have freshly pruned feet now thanks to Bernie. Scrapped & trimmed!
thanks
I think Steve may have BOUGHT that scope Shaun, not sold it.
Sorry Greg I'm in plonker mode, I read his name on the last post.
Looks like I missed out on Martin's Butler Creeks as the scope has been sold.
I'm off for FT practise.
I'm back but still alone!
how did practice go?
Poor, I'm trying to get used to the butt hook which locks the back end more than I'm used to and I think I'm inclined to shoot high.
do you think it will improve your shooting?
does it feel 'better'?
Got to go, will pick up your response in the morning and blog tomorrow pm.
See ya Phil.
I hope it might! It feels strange and I've noticed that others change theirs for different disciplines. I'll keep trying.
Good night all.
evening all. off to sunny brum soon.
does it 'grip' you then Shaun, some of the ones I've seen, seem to be floating in fresh air when people shoot.
Good luck Phil.
Not so much grip as you can feel something positive if you angle it correctly.
Just lost a LG100 on the BBS. Saw the post and pmed a question. Before he had time to answer two people had asked for it; lesson learned.
Oh, oh, oh, Shaun's in buying mode.
Where's our personal shopping advisor when you need him?
That looks a decent price. I'd be gutted,
absolutely gutted,
distraught,
inconsolable.
Bugger off and sell your EV!
Evening all, are people buying things when I'm not looking again?
Running around trying to score some insulin today, the place must be full of diabetics, everyone had run out!!!!!! Fully meded up now though.
Evening guys, as a list been made up to see what lane were on and shooting partners for Sunday.
You still thinking about a steyr Mr C
Evening guys.
Yes Jonta I dropped a easy catch tonight. Should have just said "I'll have it"
suicidal, I'd be suicidal
Pick anything else up at the hotel Phil?
We had to bully you into buying that Steyr Phil!!!!!!
no sign of a list Jonta.
I didn't stop long enough to catch anything, just slowed down and lobbed it into the reception as we went past.
it looks nice on the website, but then looks can be deceiving.
off to watch the 2nd half.
zzzzzzzzzzz
I checked the usual places, thought someone on the inside might know more like yourself mr C
I had a replacement stock for my S400 today. SO I can either shoot HFT or sell it on as standard (when I've got s Steyr; weeps loudly)
G`night
Well done England. Let's hope we see off SA tomorrow in the cricket.
Shaun, I've failed the citizenship test on facebook so I may have to hand in my Passport & move to Euskadi!
If they'll have you!
you considering the steyr as a replacement for the EV, as well as, number 1 with EV number 2?
I could become what Karen used to call a, 'Wandering Oboe!'
Is that referring to your "old man".
Phil my plan was to have an EV2 and LG100 at the same time and then decide which I preferred. Then sell one and buy another of the other.
I see you were perusing the 'Line Of Fire' rule debate on STB Phil. It made me take another look at the main shoot rules just incase!
I can think of a couple of times I've had to reach over the line to retrieve an errant reset cord or found my foot poking over after I've taken a shot. I'll have to take more care in future as it looks like things will be tightening up!
yes, well its got to be done with common sense.
If you big toe is breaking the line, its hardly gonna help you, same if you're reaching over to grab a reset cord, but if you're able to poke the target over with your muzzle, then that's a bit too far.
anyway, you stalking me?
tommy two guns eh?
http://blog.diablofieldtarget.org/blog/?tag=/report
worth a look, interesting to see the comparison with FT over there.
NOW THAT'S A HAT!!!!!!
Night boys.
Last lay off day tomorrow, back to full time next week, so it will be a stroll to the club and several pints of Highgate to celebrate/commiserate. (delete as applicable)
a 25% pay increase, wow! You'll be able to by that Leupold.
15.625 actually. we only do 5 hours on a Friday, but its actually the restoration of the 13.5135% loss
using the nikko on 10x for standers and kneelers looks like I'm stood on a tumble dryer, so God knows what it'd look like on 45x
http://www.airgunbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=377830
I'm disappointed you didn't share this information with us Mr C.
He's missing the point.
Now that's funny!!!!
I never thought maths could be so funny,
http://www.airgunbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=377599
sounds a touch ambiguous to me. i'd be in there with a fair offer
BBC has dropped its wind prediction to 3mph for Newbury on Sunday.
will you all be at Millride tomorrow
I will from after 1 until close of play.
Evening all.
Evening Greg. Good news from Easyjet, they have agreed with some conditions to carry our air rifles.
Ahh, the conditions being.......?
Too long to type but there common sense.
I'm on the new list for GP7, Hurrah!
I'm having 400!
It's 401 that counts!
evening chaps
